Who We Are

Hope Family Health Center (Community HOPE Projects Inc.), is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to providing primary medical care and integrated behavioral health services to uninsured individuals and families in the Rio Grande Valley, Texas.

As a safety net clinic, HOPE addresses the needs of those with limited or no access to medical or behavioral health services. Beyond direct care, HOPE implements wellness and prevention programs designed to support individuals and families in achieving healthier, more fulfilling lives.

HOPE operations are sustained through grants, individual donations, volunteer contributions, and fundraisers. Volunteer physicians, including resident physicians in training, generously offer their time to deliver much-needed healthcare. Licensed counseling and support staff, funded through grants, share a collective mission of ensuring access to healthcare for all.

Thanks to the continued support of local hospitals, businesses, organizations, and community leaders, HOPE continues to expand its reach and improve the lives of uninsured patients and their families.

We extend our heartfelt gratitude to our generous partners and look forward to serving our community for many years to come.

Our Story

In 1994, a group o f individuals including David Saavedra, LCSW, Sister Marian Strohmeyer and Anna W. Cass, Parish Associate at Holy Spirit,  had the idea to provide medical and counseling services to the families who did not have access to any resources such as Medicaid, Medicare, or private insurance.

The interest sparked as Father Gerald Frank arranged the three to meet and begin to unfold their ideas. Through extensive conversations, outreaching and community efforts, The Family Health & Resource Center (FHRC) was created and Community HOPE Projects, Inc was incorporated in 1995 and received its status in 1997.

The group begain recruiting volunteer physicians and therapists to provide donated care to the uninsured for a minimal donation and patients were seen out of a medical office in downtown McAllen. In 1999 HOPE secured funds to build a comprehensive buidling to include medical, counseling, and case management.

On Wednesday, January 3, 2001 the Family Health Resource Center opened its doors at 2332 Jordan Rd., McAllen, TX to a new 12,000 + sq ft. integrated health center.

Hope's Board of Directors renamed the organization HOPE Family Health Center in 2004.
